General Program Details

Allen High School - What is JROTC Enrollment?
  • Any Lowery Freshmen or Allen High School student may enroll in JROTC to fulfill a PE credit. This is completed during Course Selection scheduling.

  • The JROTC program exists to motivate students to become better citizens.

    • Students enrolled in JROTC are NOT obligated or pressured to join the military. In fact, most students that participate in JROTC at AHS DO NOT go on to pursue a military career.

    • JROTC does allow students to explore and pursue military careers, if desired.  Cadets can earn scholarships at a Service Academy or at a ROTC college program. They can also enlist in the military at a higher rank.

  • JROTC is NOT a discipline program for struggling teens. It is a cadet led program that develops leadership skills. Lesson plans are executed by cadet leaders under the supervision of the instructors.

  • The JROTC curriculum includes lessons in leadership, health and wellness, physical fitness, first aid, geography, American history and government, marksmanship, land navigation, communications and emotional intelligence.

  • JROTC enrolled students are expected, at minimum,  to maintain grooming standards, wear uniform once a week, and participate in PT every two weeks. See Handbook for full requirements
